Race Night

Friday 11th July 2008 at Camping Bar. 

Last Friday, 11^th July, saw 85 El Vallé Association members having a wonderful time at “A Night at the Races”.  The Social Committee excelled themselves with this event with imagination and a lot of hard work.  There was a ‘race course’ laid out on the floor with ‘water jumps’ and also a ‘hurdle’ race, the horses heads, which had been made by Peter Gorham and painted by Elaine and Christine, were magnificent – each one a different character.  We had a Tote and betting was brisk on each of the five races with both the winner and the winning jockey receiving a prize. 

For the first race the jockeys were members of the Committee consisting of Spanish Beauty, Bob the Builder, Halloween Hussey, Down Under, Wedding Bells and Pole Position, the runaway winner was Spanish Beauty. 

After the first two races we had our meal of salad, followed by either Rosada or chicken and chips, and an excellent meal it was our thanks to the management and staff of Camping Bar for all their assistance in organising this event. 

A further three races followed the meal with a final race run by the winners of all the previous five races with the overall winner, by a photo finish, ‘A Couple of Tinnies’. 

This was truly a fun night with many of you taking part as jockeys and entering into the spirit of the evening, judging by the comments at the end of the night I think everyone enjoyed the whole experience and would like to see it repeated sometime in the future. 

Once again, a big thank you to Ann and all the members of the Social Committee, I know how hard they worked to make this event the success it was, and once again, thank you too for supporting it.
