Hog Roast - Sunday 14th June 2009

Sunday 14th June 2009 brought the El-Valle Hog Roast, an event to celebrate the five year birthday of the formation of the El-Valle association. The hog roast was attended by 130 members who paid the grand sum of 5 euros to take advantage of the food, (numerous types of salad, potatoes, bread, dressings, bottle of wine between two and not forgetting the HOG). This was roast to perfection and the whole of the catering side was delivered in a friendly yet professional manner, the company providing this service, FIG & OLIVE are to be congratulated on their service. We are not given to advertising on event reports but on this occasion I think it is well justified.

The evening started with Anne, Christine and Elaine doing the meet and greet and issuing a raffle ticket to each person for the free raffle with a cash prize at the end of the event. Everyone was also given a voucher to exchange for the meal, this was in order to try prevent any gatecrashers wandering in. (At least two four legged ones tried)

A reference here to the efforts of the Social and Main Committee is in order. Throughout the day members of the Social Committee had to be in attendance at the venue to ensure smooth running and at the event all committee members (including some people press-ganged into service) worked hard to make this event the success it was.

Special mention should be made of Stewart who apparently had a successful car parking concession scam running. (only joking). On a signal from the Hog boss guests went to collect their food and entitlement was verified by Elaine until the smell of the food proved too much for her and she deserted her post to join the queue. (It was near the end though)

I can only speak for myself but I did not hear one word of criticism concerning any aspect of the evening but I did hear a lot praise for how things were going!!!!

After everyone had been served and everyone had eaten it was Showtime. Entertainment was provided by Jack, vocalist and guitarist, and he provided a superb selection of songs and music and judging by the number of people dancing this view was shared by everyone. He was accompanied by a female vocalist Annabella and she too was excellent and her rendition of Mercy brought the house down and was the peoples choice for an encore song.

As already mentioned the dance floor was full for every song, even the slow ones, and if the person your caught on film with is not who it should be then it is your own fault!!!!!!!

We were even treated to an impromptu exhibition of pole dancing (fully clothed) by a not to be identified member!!!!

At the end of the evening 0030 the raffle was drawn and the first prize winner ONCE AGAIN was Doug. Consideration is being given to Doug and Jackie being banned from all future raffles.!!!!!!

To finish a great night, thanks again to Hog boss, Jack our musician, Atonio owner of our venue, and the committee of El-Valle association.

Alan.
