The October walk
was led by Yvonne James and Jane Harris and started out from the small bin
area at Las Mayorales.
We had a good,
enthusiastic crowd of 23 people, including 7 new members who had never
enjoyed an El Valle walk before.
We set off
downhill soon reaching the dry lake bed. Signs here for ‘No Fishing’
and ‘No Swimming’ causing some amusement.

The day was fine
although there had been some rain earlier that week which provided us with
a challenge as there was flowing water in a river bed that had been dry
for most of the year!
The
challenge was taken as good fun by all, with some people taking the rocky
route and risking wet feet whilst others resorted to the ‘boot covers’
(carrier bags) provided by Yvonne and Jane. Two members of the
‘Quaddies’ were on hand as back up in case assistance was needed.

All safely
across, we made our way up the very long, but moderately steep climb up
the hill enjoying the beautiful views across the valley to Periana.
Dropping
downhill we again crossed the river but this time via a small road bridge.
It was so good to see some flowing water in the area again.

Our
route then took us along a lovely path through the Olive Groves, the trees
extremely heavy with fruit. It looks as though the crop should be a good
one this year! Passing the Camping Area we rejoined the original path
having come full circle and finishing back at the car parking area.
We
then had a fabulous lunch at the Hotel Las Mayorales which seemed to be
enjoyed by all.
