Walk on 20 September 2008 - to the top of Maroma

If you're like me you will have sat in your garden with your glass of vino tinto, looked up at Maroma and asked "I wonder what the view's like from up there?". Well Saturday 20 September 2008 was your chance to find out!

Eighteen of us met up at Meson Sara before driving up past Ventas de Zaffarayas to the camping site to the north of Maroma.

Having parked up we walked up the often winding route towards the top of our mountain. The weather was good and our hopes of being rewarded with a decent view were high!

We made several stops on the way up - a chance to recover and refuel! But as we crested the ridge 2 kilometres from the summit, the clouds started blowing over the top. We persevered and made our way to the monument at the top, arriving some 3 hours and 20 minutes after leaving the campsite. We paused for lunch before the obligatory group photo.

The trip back down was eventful with much loose material on the path causing several of our group to end up on their rumps!

As we drove back down from Zafarraya we looked over at  Maroma and it was, of course, cloud-free and sunny!!

Never mind, there's always next time!

Our thanks to Stewart and Peter for organising the walk.
