TREASURE
HUNT 11th April 2008 If anyone sees a car registration 1258 D*K driving round
the “campo” between Trapiche and Cutar, wave him down and tell the driver
(Clive) that the Treasure Hunt is over and I’m afraid he didn’t win a prize. Clive was one of fourteen drivers with eagle eyed
passengers, who set out from Hotel Romero at around 3.30 pm on Friday 11 April.
Their mission was to seek out answers to a set of questions on various villages
in the area. The competitors first task was to unravel a set of anagrams
on village names. Once they had decided that: - Glems Zoo, Alarm Hac, Pear Itch, Obe Anagrams, Curat
and A Cream Baron were in fact: - Los Gomez, Almarchar, Trapiche, Benamagosa,
Cutar and Benamacorra respectively, they then had to decide on a route to visit
each of these villages and look for answers to various questions. Each driver was issued with a
set of rules, a local map and the questions. In case of a points tie, mileage
covered would be taken into account. The lowest mileage winning. Also amongst the questions was a
set of photographs taken at various locations that had to be identified along
the route. First to arrive at the finish at
El Pantano Restaurant was Ray (S6J*G) just before 6 pm. having covered 52.4 Km. As other cars arrived, it became
obvious that a couple of the questions could not be answered because the poster
in Trapiche for who was appearing at the Teatro del Carmen had been changed
since our last survey of the route and the collection time for post in Cutar had
mysteriously disappeared from the post-box in the village. This left 27 questions to be
answered (1 point for each) and 6 photos to be identified (2 points each).
Giving a maximum of 39 points. By 7.45 pm., all drivers had
returned their question papers (except Clive who might still be out there
somewhere looking for answers). With a total of 14 cars at 5€
each, and nobody taking up our offer of anagram answers in route order for 5€,
we took a total of 70€. This divided into 35€ for the winner, 20€ for
second and 15€ for third. Only one team managed to answer
all the questions correctly and identify all the photographs. The driver of that
team was Peter (2267 D*M). There was a tie for second place
with 36 points between Ray (S6J*G) and Neil (5047 D*H). As reported earlier, Ray
covered 52.4 Km and Neil did 64 Km. Therefore Ray claimed second place and Neil
third. At around 8pm (still no sign of
Clive) most of the teams adjourned to the restaurant where they enjoyed a meal,
a few drinks together with, I’m sure, a few stories on how they missed some of
the questions. The last of us left the
restaurant just before 11 pm. (still no sign of Clive) For those interested I list below results for each team: -
On behalf of Stewart and myself,
thank you to all those that took part and supported the event. If you read this report Clive,
please telephone either Stewart or myself (our phone numbers are included in the
information we passed to each driver at the start). Just to confirm you are okay
and not still out there somewhere looking for clues! Peter Goreham |
